3 Questions to Ask Yourself When Motivation is Gone

Is your motivation out the window? If so, I have 3 questions for you!

Are you stuck in a bad cycle of procrastinating?

It happens.  And, now more than ever, it is really easy to slip into a state of “meh.”

Believe it or not, I used to be a massive procrastinator.  And, from time to time, I still battle the ugly beast. Let’s face it…there are things in life we just aren’t in the mood to do…and there are times in life when we just want to sink into the comfort of routine and blissful nothingness.

Sometimes, we make amazing progress and then something happens that takes us off track.  The longer we are “off track”, the harder it is to motivate to get back on the wagon again.

For example, maybe you started down the path of starting a blog…..or maybe you want to tackle a decluttering project in your house…or maybe you want to get healthier.  Perhaps you even took that first step. Then, “life” happened and you had to stop progress. Now, you just can’t seem to get motivated to start back up.

If this sounds like you, I have an assignment for you.  Yup…you have homework.

First, find a pen and paper and write down what “it” is for you at the top of the paper (what is the thing that you just can’t motivate to do).  Recently, I had some computer clean-up that really needed to get done and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. So, at the top of the paper, I wrote “Clean Up Computer Files”.

Now, on that same piece of paper, answer the following questions:

  1. WHY do I want to do this?
  2. HOW will I feel when it is done?
  3. WHAT positive changes will this bring into my life?

Going through these 3 questions should not be a 30 second task.  Take your time with these. You might even need to work on it over a few days.  But…the key is writing down your answers. You will need to revisit them.

There is a reason I have you write it down instead of just thinking about it.  When you take the time to write it down, you connect at a much deeper level with the reason why.  You think it, you “see” it (on paper), and you feel it (as you write).

Next up….look at your calendar (you KNOW I have to bring up calendars) and decide WHEN you are taking action.  Write it in your calendar. Make the appointment with yourself.

Then, finally, when the time comes to get moving, READ what you wrote down.  Let your own words be your motivation!

Overwhelmed? Frazzled? Tired of your calendar controlling you?
