The Power of Knowing What You Don't Want
We spend so much time thinking about what we want to add to our lives... new goals, skills, habits. But when was the last time you intentionally considered what you want to remove?
Sometimes the path to getting what we want isn't about doing more. It's about doing less of what drains us.
Here's how to identify what's weighing you down and create space for what truly matters.
Do the "heavy things" audit.
Grab a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. On one side, list everything that feels heavy, burdensome, or like it's draining your energy right now. Don't filter. Just brain dump everything that makes you think "ugh" when it pops up on your calendar.
Write your "don't want" list.
On the other side of that paper, get specific about what you don't want in your life. Maybe it's working evenings, attending certain types of events, or following someone else's version of success that doesn't fit you. Be honest about what feels out of alignment, even if it seems like you "should" want it.
Spot the sneaky misalignments.
Compare your current goals to both lists. You might discover you're pursuing your goals in ways that go against what actually energizes you. Maybe you have a goal to get healthier, but you're forcing yourself through gym workouts you hate because that's what all the fitness influencers say to do. Just because high-intensity workouts work for them doesn't mean they're the right path for you.
Find your alternative path.
Once you spot a misalignment, brainstorm a different approach that serves the same goal but feels lighter. Maybe instead of those dreaded gym sessions, you'd actually love daily walks or yoga classes. One student of mine hated evening business events but still needed to network, so she shifted to morning coffee meetings instead. Same goal, completely different energy.
Give yourself permission to pivot.
Release the guilt about not following everyone else's blueprint. The goal isn't to abandon your dreams. It's to find a path that feels lighter and more authentic to who you are. Success leaves clues, but that doesn't mean you have to follow someone else's exact roadmap!
Your energy is precious, and protecting it isn't selfish. It's strategic. When you clear out what doesn't serve you, you create space for what does. Start with that paper exercise this week. I guarantee you'll uncover at least one thing you can release that will make your journey toward your goals feel so much lighter and more free.

If you love the idea of a big visual family calendar but hate being stuck with January-December timing, these undated wall calendars are pretty awesome-sauce. You can start using them whenever you want, hang up just one month, or go crazy and display all twelve...whatever works for your space and family needs.
Plus, they're made with actual quality cardstock instead of that flimsy paper that rips the second someone writes on it, so they'll actually survive real family life.
P.S. I did a whole video series on how I use this! Check it out here.

Is Pomodoro Technique Right for You?
If you've ever tried the Pomodoro technique and felt like something was wrong with you because those 25-minute timers made you more anxious instead of more productive, this video is going to be such a relief. I'm breaking down exactly why this popular productivity method isn't actually right for most people, and how to figure out if you're one of the specific personality types who should probably ditch it for good.
You'll learn why timers can actually disrupt your natural workflow (especially if you're a creative or perfectionist), plus I'm sharing the four specific types of people who do thrive with Pomodoro so you can stop forcing a technique that might be working against your brain instead of with it.
